EU Taxpayers Brace As Deepening Banking Crisis Means Euro-TARP Looms

Which means someone else must step in, and soon. And that someone is almost certain to be the European taxpayer.

May 5 UK Local Election Results

Con: 38%
Labour: 27%
Libs: 18%
Others: 12%

^Possibility of closer general election result than opinion polls show.

Cons polled 37.8% in 2015 Election to give small majority.

If Labour could rise just a few points. ;/

And it is not over yet...

So How does gaining a few points make any difference? I am struck by that.. fptp makes % rather irrelevant, so while the Libs had a Bigger share than the last local election they have also (so far) lost more seats (-38 at last count) so are in fact worse off with a bigger share..

Amusing the LibDems also got one seat on a who gets the short straw run off... literally..

4 candidates to vote for where I live.

Christian Alliance
Labour
Conservatives
Liberal Democrats

Voted for Liberal Democrats.

Mix of wealth and poverty. People here prefer little or no Government. ;/

Wells Parliament constituency

Political history

The seat was largely Conservative-held during the 20th century and has not seen a Labour MP in its history. The only other party to have been represented is the Liberal Democrats or their predecessor, the Liberal Party, who achieved a marginal victory in 2010.

The Lib-Dems have lost a lot of ground in their Liberal Heartlands due to their stance on Brexit.. as you say, those areas like mine (Lewes) have a strong sense of identity but also a strong dislike for government, especially the big bureaucratic kind..

If they are not careful we might see a rift where the Social Democrats and Liberals hive off into differing camps..

As Belloc said, the 3 bog rots that destroy a society are big government, big bureaucracy and big corporations..

I am not sure the Lid-Dems are approaching this in such a way that won't be harmful in the long run, plus it will take a long time to get over tuition fees and going into government with the Tories..

There was a warning at the beginning of the Conservatices needed Labour to get a huge boost to ensure that Corbyn was shown in the polls to be "threatening" enough to be PM so as to get people off their bums to vote against him.. There was the fear that voter apathy would lose the Conservatives the election..
