'No deal' Brexit could add £930 a year to UK shopping bills

Households face increases of up to £930 in their annual shopping bills if Britain walks away from Brexit talks without a trade deal, according to new research that reveals a disproportionate impact on poorer families and the unemployed.

Meat, vegetables, dairy products, clothing and footwear would be subject to the largest consumer price rises under a “no-deal” scenario, according to a study published in the authoritative National Institute Economic Review.

Since WTO tariffs are highest for fresh food – reaching 45% for dairy products and 37% for meat – and much of this is currently imported from Europe, the team of economists predict an inflationary surge that could match that already inflicted by the falling pound.

This statement is scare mongering, it's all bollocks. We grow our own veg, we rear our own animals and we had our own textile trade before China and India took over! We are a self sufficient Island people seem to forget this.

Bollox, Britain has not been self sufficient for nearly 200 years.

Also food prices are rocketing right now.

But personally I hope there's no deal because the company I work for will be relocating to Malta, warm med sun will do for me.chuckle

Just a shame the majority of employees will be out of work.:(

Leave voters are more likely to:
- approve of Donald Trump
- approve of golliwogs
- want to ban abortions
- want to leave Paris agreement
- want to leave Eurovision

Views that show remainers and leavers are worlds apart

Leave voters are twice as likely to want to ban the burqa

Seventy percent of leave voters told YouGov they supported “a law against wearing a full body and face veil” aimed at Muslim women. Only 32% of remain voters felt the same way.

And half as likely to think that gollies are offensive

Asked “Do you think it is or is not acceptable to sell or display a golliwog doll?”, 71% of leave voters said “acceptable”. Remain voters scored 37%.

More leave voters thought Donald Trump would be a good president

Asked on the weekend of his inauguration whether Trump would make a “great” or “good” president of the US, 30% of leave voters said they believed he would.

Zero percent of remain voters said they thought Trump would be a “great” president. Three pecent said he would be “good”.

They are more likely to want to leave the Paris climate change agreement

Pulling out of the Paris accord would mean the UK joining the US as the only major nations outside the global agreement. That’s where 26% of leave voters would prefer to be. Only 5% of remain voters want to quit.

Leave voters also want out of Eurovision

Forty-one percent of leave voters say they have made their mind up that the UK should permanently exit the Eurovision song contest.

They are sure Gibraltar is British

Seventy-one percent of leave voters believe Gibraltar should “remain a self-governing British territory”. Just over half of remain voters, 54%, share this view.

In September 2015 YouGov surveyed members of the Conservative party
There was a lead (30% to 25%) among leave voters in preferring there to be a reduction in the abortion time limit, to below 24 weeks. And twice as many leave-voting Tories (8%) as remain-voting Tories (4%) wanted to see a total ban on abortions.

Attitudes to terrorism and privacy

In the context of terrorism, “more should be done to help the security forces combat terrorism, even if this means the privacy of ordinary people suffer” was a statement that 64% of leave voters could agree with, compared with 44% of remain voters.

Almost half of leave voters consider gay sex unnatural

Asked “personally speaking, do you think gay sex is or is not natural?” just under a half of leave voters – 47% – say they believe gay sex is unnatural. Twenty-one percent of remain voters agree with them.

RE: Calmdown to UK EU referendum
As I understand it.
The 'EU', wants to let in the poor starving overpopulated people's, so they can share their better piece of the pie, with the 'have nots'.

I dont know if they realise that those dysfunctional people's will continue to porolifrigate, their overpopulation and culture over the current EU residents until the EU as a whole becomes yet another overpopulated, impoverished, dark Hell, much like the places these immigrants are fleeing, in the first place.

That, will Not help anyone!

If you want to save the world, From Hell, and Damnation. First, Don't let your Own nation drown in the mire.

I don't know If these overpopulated people can be saved by birth control cookies, or by being forced to face the consequences of their own behaviour.

But If they are allowed to overpopulate, and rule the world, their population will inevitably be controlled by famine, pestilence, and violent conflict.

Please. Let's demonstrate what we can do for these people. Or what they can do for themselves. In their Own nations.

And just feeding them, will Not solve the problem.

If that exponential population growth is confined to their own nation (s) it will still experience pestilence and violence from overcrowding.

If it is allowed to continue throughout the the world. Then the whole world will be the victim. With no place left to run to. No more 'developed' nation left to save them.

And if this 'problem' makes you angry, I can understand.
But try to channel this concern in a constructive manor.

I cringe when I see some angry people here, name calling. Blaming all members of a race, for the characteristics of some.
Basically taunting them to hatred.
While alienating those who might otherwise come to understand the problem.

I know 'liberals' do not want to die in a fire.
They mostly want peace and love and freedom etc.etc. just like 'conservatives'.
Hugs

The truth needs to be presented in a palatable manor to be seen and understood.

There is no violence.

We just had an election. MPs are accountable to their voters, no one else.

Actual fascists voted Brexit.

We had North sea oil in the 70s, we are definitely! self sufficient, you won't be getting that on the rock your moving to with high rising crime in Valletta.

Brexit: Netherlands told to prepare for a no-deal 'chaos scenario'

The Netherlands must prepare for a chaotic, no-deal Brexit, the Dutch parliament’s European affairs committee has said, in a strongly worded report blaming the stalled exit talks on Britain’s “unrealistic expectations” and “inconsistency”.

“What was long considered impossible is suddenly thinkable: a chaos scenario in which the UK abruptly leaves the EU on 29 March 2019 without an exit agreement, a transition period or a framework for future relations,” the committee said.

The report said a chaotic UK departure from the bloc – as opposed to a hard, but planned Brexit – would be “highly damaging to ... vital and vulnerable” business sectors in the Netherlands, currently Britain’s fourth-largest trading partner.

EU to move key agencies from London to France and Netherlands when UK leaves, Brussels announces

France and Netherlands are to benefit from Brexit at the expense of the UK as key EU agencies previously hosted by Britain are moved abroad.

The European Council announced the new locations of the European Medicines Agency and the European Banking Authority, both previously hosted in London, after a meeting in Brussels on Monday.
