XM to buy Pandora

Quote:On-demand audio continues to shake up the radio business as Sirius XM Holdings announced Monday it reached a deal to acquire online streaming service Pandora Media.

Sirius, which markets itself as SiriusXM, agreed to deliver stock currently worth about $3.5 billion to fully acquire Pandora.

The satellite radio company, which already owns about 15 percent of Pandora, said it would maintain both the Sirius XM and Pandora brands and services. But it also appeared to leave open the possibility of a shift, saying there would be "no immediate change in listener offerings."

XM's "Mostly Music" bundle is $11 a month and costs $5 a month extra if you want to stream to PC.

Pandora is $60 a year for premium and lets you stream to any PC you want. You just log into your account. They also have Pandora Free (which I use) which is supported by ads. XM has no free option.

Obviously at some point they're going to want to integrate or consolidate their services somehow, and Pandora users are going to get the short end of the stick.

How did XM grow so big anyway? People who pay $20 a month for music are either stupid, or stupidly rich. Or both.
