Every time they raise minimum wage, other jobs aren't increased proportionally. There is no raise across the board. The bottom feeders just get pushed up to earn what's considered to be middle of the road jobs.

My job requires an Associates degree. I'm making close to 30k a year right now, which is roughly $15 an hour.

$20 an hour? Sure I'll get a raise, but people who are currently making $20 an hour won't.

They keep doing this and eventually what we will have is Communist Russia, where everyone working any job makes the same amount of money. Then we will collapse for the same reason. Why should I care about my job when less skilled people make the same that I do? Why should I work hard, when lazy people make the same that I do?

The wage stagnation is terrible.

Your reason from not increasing minimun wage is that those already on the amount it's increased to will have sour grapes?

Really? That's a reason to force working people into the penury of permanent debt?

Maybe your attitude is the reason your degree only gets you $15 an hour.

Fixed

I get screwed and I am underpaid (15 fast food wage kid), but as long as I feel like they're are people beneath me I can feel superior too, I will defend this absurd ass system, because I don't seem to understand how supply and demand works. Also I have literally no idea what happened in the soviet union but will cite it as an example anyway because f*#k you.

chuckle

Nicely translated.

It will hurt the wealthys the most :)

How will it hurt the wealthy the most?

Current projections have the current industrial revolution cutting the labour force by 50% of which 80% of those job losses will be from the lower echelons, ie those who paid the least....

So ask for whatever you want, but it won't make any difference when the jobs no longer exist.

The only way to deal with this is to up-skill the population so they to can take advantage of the technological changes and free those at the bottom to make real/positive changes to their lives rather than keep them trapped in a price fixed minimum wage cycle until they are automated out of their jobs and homes..

The only way a minimum wage works is if you have legal price caps on everything sold.
