Empires rise, empires fall. None last forever but many leave a lasting legacy for the world. The Greek, Roman, Islamic, Spanish and British empires have all left indelible marks on culture, knowledge, language and populations. As we live today with the fall of the American empire and the rise of the Chinese what, if anything, will survive of the American empire. Will future historians see it as merely the post WW2 continuation of the British empire, sharing as it does the same language, legal codes, freedoms and emphasis on science and industry, or will it appear to be a separate entity with its own legacy?

I think it will be remembered for nuclear weapons. They're not going away anytime soon.

Note to future Empires:

DO NOT enslave other humans. It doesn't matter if you set the slaves free - it will be held against you forever.

If you meet humans you don't like, just wipe them out. All of them. No survivors.

Rise of the Chinese?

I mean, they're doing something right, but if civilizations fall as they go into police states, the Middle Kingdom is circling the bottom of the barrel already. Can't feed themselves, currency not convertible, truly compromised ecosystem, plummeting birth rate, no navy to speak of, financial sector something like 80% lies, no company will invest with their pirate ways.. the American dream may be getting reoriented into fascism, but the American Empire is only, if you look at it, beginning. They'll pull back commitments and build an incredible fortress at home.

Those upon the kingship of the people
Those with their harvest measured in their mad time and their mad age
Will know their kingship will end in PAIN.
Their hands tied before them, they will be taken to the King,
To the First True Man.

That retreat from the world is common to the end of empires. Pulling out of the Paris agreement, NATO commitments, the UN just like Rome withdrawing its legions or Britain decolonising in the 60s.

America could have been remembered for saving the world from global warming. That honour will instead go to China.

Unfortunately America pissed much of it away fighting endless wars.

All of those trillions could've been used to help the American people.. now all they get is crumbling infrastructure, untenable debt promises, substandard education and healthcare, falling standard of living, daily shootings and much more.

Oops.

Woo-hoo! A brand spanking new wall to keep us behind these prison walls!!!
So much better than education or feeding people. A prison state needs more walls.

For one infinitesimally small moment in time somewhere
a people made an attempt to end slavery of other human
beings. Shed much blood and it is far from perfect and
still her most vocal critics wouldn't prefer to be anywhere
else. Oh the irony.

RE: Did America use its moment in the sun wisely?
Instead of using it's power to free people around the world the US has enslaved them to a "New World Order" of plantations. People work at miserable wages to provide the trinkets the US wants to buy, and are payed in worthless pieces of paper. The Elites spend their time at meetings laughing at the useful idiots they rule. What do the elites spend THEIR worthless paper money on? They buy real estate, gold, and stocks, and ESPECIALLY mass media. With the mass media they can fool the people into thinking everything is GREAT. Real assets that won't crash and burn like paper money will.

“The highest activity a human being can attain is learning for understanding, because to understand is to be free.” --Baruch Spinoza
