Put a SSD drive for the operating system...

Just because something looks cool and is well marketed doesn't make it worth it.

https://youtu.be/a3AMV-7J_n4
^That's the exact drive I always use in my builds compared to SSD.

You are considering a 1060 instead of a 1050 for video but dismiss the ssd for the operating system.. ? Look at the random seek time in your video..

If she's not playing game why not just use a onboard video card, they can drive 4k these days. That should save you enough for a ssd and and regular disk.

Anyways, your money. :)

Very nice! Jealous.

I hope she likes it. I'm pretty sure she'll love it after it's decorated with the decals I ordered.

Windows? Should of gotten Mac IS X. No infernal updates.

Anyway I'm sure she will love it.

Did you build it from Tiger direct? We built gaming computer from that supplier once.

That's the case I chose. The image is misleading and the glass is clear and no lights standard with the case. Got a 2 pack of Corsair fans that have purple LED's for the front. A purple light bar to illuminate the inside too like the picture indicates. But now for the fun stuff.

Selected the SkyLake 3.5 GHz i5-6600 for her needs. Asus Z170-PRO motherboard. WD Black 1TB drive. I can harvest the RAM sticks from her old PC as they are going to suit because they were upgraded previously with the intention of meeting this rig. Need to finish picking out a video card but I am still on the fence whether I want to get the GTX 1050 or be nice and do the 1060. Today I ordered the case, fans, lights, cpu, board and hard drive.

A good start.

Hello,
The 7th Gen Kaby Lake processors and the new Z270 mobo's just came out yesterday.
Check out the I7 7700K/I5 7600k/7500 and ASUS for MOBO and Video Card.
Good Luck.

Also, the Samsung 960 EVO M.2 harddrive just came out (960 Pro fastest consumer available). This is a must for a new computer!

Put a SSD drive for the operating system...

JhikpghfBump

Then thank us later. Heartflowers

It will give you a near instant boot up.

example -- on an embarrassingly old 'puter (twin core intel, geriatric gpu) linux mint 18

spinner 1m 20s+

ssd 12s.

with the ssd in a usb2 caddy (security) 20s, put the spinner in the caddy 2m 20+

A few seconds loading time is negligible for me considering the price for an SSD at this time in the market. I prefer to have the extra processing in a nice GPU as I am resolved in market values for the hardware. It depends on how much you value the benefits of SSD's. In the most intensive loads you may lose in the worst case 10 seconds. What the f*#k ever I don't think my wife is planning on hacking wall street, she'll deal with it by comparison to the current option. $50 Vs. $200+ (if I don't want to have to buy two drives) is a pretty simple decision when I consider all I'm getting is at most 10 seconds. Windows 10 boots quick enough on its own and in order to get the benefit with gaming all the storage would need to be SSD which is way expensive when you start talking Tb's. Scam IMO.

Yup I saw that. I got a good price on the i5 6600k and prefer the performance. It is unlocked the same and has a higher frequency allowance for less cost at the price I got it.

are you going to run windows or linux?

I recommend using SSD drives.

Windows, she's not going to want Linux. I keep a dual partition on my PC for various reasons but she has no use for it. I find that for the money the WD black drive delivers all the performance I need compared to SSD. She won't require it. When the technology reduces in price and they stop the bs marketing of technology that shouldn't cost nearly what it retails for.

If shes gaming in stream why didnt you go AMD? In stream a fx8530 will be cheaper and faster

I've seen enough issues with AMD over my years that I will never look back. Intel has the reliability I prefer from what I personally have experienced. Worth the extra.

Toshiba X300 is as quick as the black drives and cheaper.

Another issue of trust and reliability. I've had issues with Toshiba and use WD now due to that.
