Don't worry. According to right-wing regulation-free capitalism, the bridges that collapse are owned by companies that deserve to go out of business because they build poor bridges. The consumer will not use a crumpled bridge, and that bridge company goes out of business.

Free market capitalism for the win! Those crazy socialists and their bridge regulations need to mind their own beeswax!

lol

I was milling about if I should mention what has been happening here in BC. Now I will. There has been a push here due to seismic activity off the west coast to up grade all bridges and brick schools and other brick strictures. Even the tiny bridge I cross has been upgraded and tagged safe as can be. Has nothing to do with Socialism. Just a care for everyones safety.

That's what socialism is: public welfare. You sound like those people who tell the government not to touch their Medicare/Medicaid.

Public roads are "socialism." So are police, ambulances, and so on.

Silly Me

The US has a green stamp program. Other states have a welfare, Vet's need help programs Obama care. You can't say it's a free capitalistic system. You pay taxes, right?

I remember the bridge over the Mississippi. The earth moved slightly and broke apart the bridge . Cars in the water. A real disaster. Been cricket noises since.

That money needs to go to Israel, to rebuild their infrastructure, they are Chosen, we're merely here to serve them as a donkey would serve a human. The Holy Bible makes that clear when proof-texted in that order, Jesus said that, too. You people who want to horde all those riches for yourself, that's sinful and selfish.

The money for repairs gone seem to be one big conspiracy. Like just let things going going gone? There are a lot of jobs Trump. TRUMP. there are an awful lot of jobs. We'll have to wait and see.

Nuc. plants are on life support too.

Most of them operating beyond what they were commissioned to run
storing waste on site.

We don't good roads, bridges, or nuc plants, but look on the bright side.
We have DARPA, F35s, aircraft carriers, submarines, and lots of missiles.

Nearly 56,000 bridges nationwide, which vehicles cross 185 million times a day, are structurally deficient, a bridge construction group announced Wednesday.

The American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) list of 55,710 deficient bridges includes high-profile spans such as Throgs Neck in New York, Yankee Doodle in Connecticut and Memorial Bridge in Washington, D.C.

The list is based on Transportation Department data. The department scores bridges on a nine-point scale, and while the deficient ones might not be imminently unsafe, they are classified in need of attention.

More than one in four bridges (173,919) are at least 50 years old and have never had major reconstruction work, according to the ARTBA analysis. State transportation officials have identified 13,000 bridges along interstates that need replacement, widening or major reconstruction, according to the group.

“America’s highway network is woefully underperforming,” said Alison Premo Black, the group's chief economist who conducted the analysis. “It is outdated, overused, underfunded and in desperate need of modernization.”

The five states with the most deficient bridges are Iowa with 4,968, Pennsylvania with 4,506, Oklahoma with 3,460, Missouri with 3,195 and Nebraska with 2,361.

It sort of happens when the society doesn't pay the maintenance on the infrastructure they depend on, or even bother committing to making sure the engineered development are properly given the budgets they need. All the 'stuff' built is always built with a CAPEX, always. Every road, every bridge, every building, every house. The CAPEX dictates the capital required to keep any of it functional. In the current situation it's not even a case of one bad political expenditure causing it either, it's hundreds over time combined with exponential inflation on the cost of materials/services that chip away at the foundation so mindlessly.

There is the illusionary idea that somehow once a bridge or a road is built that it lasts forever, when the reality is the development of infrastructure is always in a process of destruction from the day it's built. To let things get to the current situation, it took decades of agenda's that ran completely contrary to the idea a civilization needs to exist at all. Mainly because none of the people that have money or power actually comprehend that for them to hold either, they need that infrastructure to keep them alive and in power.

When the infrastructure falls apart from a lack of planning, community development and foresight...

This shows and broadcasts how weak they are. How disorganised. How myoptic and short sighted. How lazy and stupid they really are. Every bridge and poorly built road shouts to the world; "Come on in, Morons are running this business, feel free to take everything."

Every new project they build requires a whole lifetime of maintenance, absolutely!
-like every new stadium, every new museum, every new university building,
every new government building.....and bases.

Each and every one is a leech on all the rest of the country.
The infrastructure rots while people collect their salaries, healthcare benefits, pensions.
