I don't covet any of my neighbor's wives, male or female slaves, oxen or donkeys. But this commandment presumes slavery is an ongoing gig. As well as multiple wives.

But that's how the TENTH COMMANDMENT reads. It one of the biggies. Top Ten in the hit parade.

The original commandements contained over 600 of them. 10 is the abridged version.

Go look for yourself.

Do you really think that any of us are free?

We're all slaves in one way or another.

There is a natural order to this world and failing to adhere to that order results in atrocities.

No Moron....

During that time people had servants.

Exodus 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

Where do you see, "thou shalt have slaves?"

Nothing worth even debating...chuckle

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. His name is Jesus. Acts 4:12

Martin Luther Small Catechism, which I hold in my hand at this moment says "slaves", not "servants".

If my slaves are out of shape and lazy and some dude down the road had young good looking slaves who worked their ass off, it would be be a sin for me to want his slaves. Secretly or otherwise.

Forget the Satanic Old Testament corrupted as it is. Tend to the words of Christ....

Those who are free in Christ, are free indeed.

There's thousands of 'commandments, the 613 Mitzot are only the beginning. One would make themselves mad if they tried following them all. That in itself is slavery to man, ugly crusty hateful old men who want your money and your soul to serve them, rather than God.

Read Leviticus.

It is "the Law"...

yes...that is what it means....

"Liberty means responsibility, which is why most men dread it." George Bernard Shaw

Yes, I've read every one of them....many times.

They had servants or slaves...and there were rules about how to treat them. That doesn't sanction slavery.

Like M said, everyone is a slave to something or another. There's more truth to that than what you're trying to push.

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. His name is Jesus. Acts 4:12

It does NOT encourage slavery. Every nation on earth has slaves at one point or another and every race on earth has been in slavery at one point or another.

The rules applied to that time, when people did have slaves.

But it also ties into more.....and Jesus talked a lot about it.

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. His name is Jesus. Acts 4:12

Slave = employee.

If society fell apart, we - the people would build a new one. Most people are good at their core, and when we see things that are wrong we work to fix them together. Make friends with your neighbors, get involved with your community - because we will rebuild our lives, our communities, from horrible circumstances we always will.
