Move to Nova Scotia.

What would you do?

I have a property 20 minutes from home I call my compound. There is a big steel insulated building on it which contains my RV. The place also has about 25kw of generator capacity, split between a gasoline and a propane generator. I also have a few smaller portable unit, and the generator on the RV. I can live in the RV. I have a couple large freezers out there where I keep things like part of a cow and pig in there (my offspring live in the area and we buy that together and it goes pretty quick). I put the first generator in for backup power for the freezers, the second because I got a great deal on it and it was propane and I already had a large tank installed for heating, hot water, and a stove in the clubhouse I built inside that building. I have a lot of food out there. My kids go there to get certain things like meats and ultra pasteurized milk and rice and sugar and more. I wanted a good reserve of food but I didn't want things to go bad and so with my kids all in the area, they can come get a roast, some ribs, ground beef, a bucket of rice and noodles, a box of tea leaves, a jar of sugar, etc. I go there once a month for maintenance work, takes an entire day. While there I identify anything I need to move like frozen orange juice or butter and text my kids and someone comes to get it, sometime sharing with friends. Some stuff gets donated because I stock it but nobody uses it, like cans of powdered eggs and milk. I have a lot of security devices I installed, including thermal imaging cameras. I have plenty of weapons and ammo. If the SHTF, others will be joining me. The property is such that I can block access and keep all vehicles at a considerable distance away to be of no direct threat. Any invaders would have to enter on foot or ATV. They would be dead however before reaching visual range of my compound.

I put a lot of thought into what ifs. I have an idea and plan/solution for many scenarios. I've had a lot of time to think on this. I got that property about 15 months ago. It's near a river (water could be taken from there if necessary, but I got permission for a well I'll have drilled this summer). The building was barely a year old, I got it for a steal because of its remoteness. I got it to simply keep an RV in but it has since turned into a DIY survival compound hobby, lol. The only thing missing are guard towers but cameras have kind of replaced that. I even have defense drones I keep out there which can be deployed with thermal imaging for tracking intruders in the woods. My son is good at flying those and goes out there to just play with them. He was out there to borrow a drone a couple days ago.

So yeah, I have a plan. chuckle

RE: If the electricity went out and stayed out, I would...
When the electricity goes out are the best days. Sometimes I turned it off because I like it that way. I 'saw these things happening' 27 years ago and came to the wilderness. Was raised without electricity until I was about 12. We had a generator, but only ran it now and then if we wanted to listen to a radio. We bathed in creeks, ate deer and our own cattle we raised on our ranches.

I would continue on, healing those who come to me, or getting them to the right place as I do now. I prepare, more garden, more algae. This year will be even more, God willing, a more gentle lifestyle. Wood heat, though I"m sitting next to an electric heater connected directly to my bank account. Too lazy to build a fire. Cold showers are best for the body, so Yogi Bhajan claims. I've taken a few and will take more. More time to do yoga and meditate with no electricity, once I get past my computer and information addictions. I'll sun gaze more and walk barefoot. Spend more time with the wild turkeys.

It'll be a good life, once we adjust to the shock of Armageddon. I've had dreams of this since I was very young, though I'm not ready, as ready as I am., still there is nothing Our Heavenly Father will not provide.

I understand. Hugs

We never know what we are capable of. But..I don't think I would last long. Not because I'm not strong, but because I love my friends and people in general. Unless it meant I could really help someone, I'd much rather die than see people I love suffer. Or even people in general. And death has never scared me.

Now..if they needed me make their lives easier, it would be a different story.

i've thought a lot about this in my life. my oldest brother (who used to throw lit matches at me) used to say things like 'human animals', like it is a bad thing. what he meant was social animals. we are made to depend on each other , trust each other, be interdependent on each other. this is why we are so successful that we can melt every square inch of ice on this planet and raise the sea levels hundreds of feet. you are so lucky if you have that now. what is after that is just survival and it sucks.

i've studied psychology, maslows ladder of needs, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow's_h..._of_needs,

when you get yourself down to 'food and shelter', and everything else is stripped away. i guess that is your true self. i've lived there most of my life, it sucks, but somehow i am still choosing survival. That surprises me 2, but it is all i have left. i lost my point, going to cry a little, brb.... Tissue

I'm a psychiatric n.p..

I hope I never reach that level. Seems more animal than human to me and it's very scary. If anything warrants a good cry, it's thinking about that.

It's strange, because I've seen more people exhibiting a leaning towards that level in the past 5 months than in my entire life combined.

I also have solar bit not a great deal of capacity .. yet. .. not enough to power an AC unit for 24 hours with enough battery reserve. I'd like to add more but gawd, the maintenance I already have to perform is a bit much, and I want to build a small water tower next. I have a lot of battery capacity but I'd like to upgrade AGM to lithium and that's going to be spending, but I'm going to do it, about $20k worth to start.

this is amazingly sad. one thing that keeps me going is that i can do hi tech work, at least intermittently. i get amazed how i can dream up complex solutions to complex problems. my mind switches between 'food and shelter' and how can i make this or that company a million dollars. it drives me crazier than i know i am.

and no, i can't access the dollars or bargain for my wages, i'm trapped. i need to play the game or check out. i can't see another way for me to go. maybe tomorrow i will meet a good person or will get lucky. after 50 years of saying that to myself maybe it will come true.

just a suggestion, i'm wondering why wind power and water towers are not combined. excess electricity from the wind power can move water into the water tower, electricity and drinking water can be made from the water tower. i'm thinking like a wind turbine directly over the water tower. why are we not doing this?

The 'age of Aquarius' quote reminds me of 'brother against brother'...etc. from the end times of the bible. I've lived it. My brothers have tortured me. I've seen the quotes. It makes me insane asking "why??" any ideas? It seems like peeps can't just hang out and enjoy life. why? i'm trying not to judge, but all of the understanding that i can muster can not explain their behavior, except for the supernatural.

Moon's Muse is more trained in this than I, and perhaps has more insights into this than I will share, so i hope she will add her insightfulness as well. I enjoy her perspective on things, as she's about the same age as my daughters, yet so wise, open and honest, as they are in their own ways too.

Could it be the asking 'why' should be stopped, if it's driving us insane? and and simply accept it's happening?

Notice I say 'us', as there is no separation between us, as I am no different than you. We're here with 'friends' now, all is safe in this moment.

What we are looking for is 'brothers', or 'sisters' who are not against us.

What do you think so far?

Wind is not practical here, surrounded by tall trees. I don't get direct sun for a couple hours until it clears the trees after sunrise. Summer is when more electric power would be required though, so that works out well. My current battery capacity can be brought back from 50% depletion to full in about 5 hours on just solar, 4 in the summer. That's cutting it close in the winter. I plan to double that with lithium, which I can deplete beyond 50% if necessary too. The AGM batteries I have require too much maintenance every month. If I can get rid of that, I can add more solar.

I have additional DIY projects I want to do, but I really don't want to turn this into a maintenance nightmare. I stopped myself from investigating geothermal. That looked like a maintenance nightmare with a failure point that I could not resolve myself if necessary. Instead, I keep a bunch of charcoal on hand as just another emergency alternative fuel and energy source. It's all about energy, keeping warm during an ice age, keeping cool during global warming. If push comes to shove, I have 19 acres of trees I could begin harvesting for energy too. I have a still in case we have to make our own generator fuel too, but it remains unassembled and tested, that I'll do this summer. I do collect rain water off the roof into a couple of 50 gallon plastic barrels that once contained propylene glycol I got for free. I could drink that once filtered through a couple water filters, 3 actually because I wanted to remove radioactive fallout and salt (although salt shouldn't come from rain, but I also wanted the ability to recycle piss if necessary, lol).

We had a huge storm here and we were without power for two weeks.
All the stores were closed because of no computers...
Lake Geneva still had power...
I had to go to Lake Geneva to buy supplies...
To buy gas it ment going to Lake Geneva as well...
The longer you go without power the better it went...

Maybe we could use some new friends?

I really don't like it when those I've considered friends go off on tangents I don't like and get all weird.

They didn't live without energy though. They likely replaced electricity with logs, coal, kerosene, and paraffin wax. And probably a block of ice delivered once a week. Did they use a co-op freezer in town that ran on electric? That was popular back then.
