There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible to live without breaking laws.

The cop will lose his job if he doesn't bring in enough revenue. So, they have to be creative and invent crimes.

You must be a southerner? Never gets cold enough in the winter to want to warm the car up first? Well, when it's 10F and you have remote start installed on your car and you've always got the heater on, one thing some people like to do is start their car and have it idling for 15 minutes in the driveway while they have breakfast or do their hair and then dash out into the cold to get into their nice warm car.

They call them "puffers" and it's illegal. You can snitch on people who do it, although I'd never snitch.

Next it'll be illegal to leave your belongings unattended, in case someone might steal them.

"I encourage officers to write this ticket", said the police chief.
90% of the people won't fight it, so it's easy revenue.

So the cop went onto someone's property due to a suspicion? That is trespassing and the ticket should be fought. If he had a suspicion, then he may get a warrant. No warrant means he had NO legal right to step foot on this taxpayer's property.
If this guy has a "fund me" page to fight the ticket, I'm donating what I can. The law enforcement personnel are to UPHOLD the laws of the people, not the policies of revenue generation.
If cops want respect, then it can be earned by working for the people instead of the money machine.

Read'em and weep. its plumb stupid to warm your car up unattended in a city.
You could be held responsible for the theft and anything the thief does with your car, and your insurance is void in most cases.

Aren't cars started remotely now without a key? And don't the doors and transmission remain locked until the owner returns? I can leave my vehicle running and secured and nobody is going anywhere with it.
