RE: To hell with the Second Amendment
The 2A, which states that firearms ownership is a right, is based on the premise that firearms are a population's only way to protect rights. The corollary, then, is that if the premise can be shown false, the 2A is not a right.

The 2A is not based on the premise that firearms are a population's only way to protect rights. First, 2A protects our Constitution and form of government, -not a right here and there. We decide when to take up arms against a tyrannical government, after enough rights have been eroded that we can no longer stand for it. We have not reached that point yet, but take our Constitution away, and you will see what happens. Second, as pointed out above, before that point comes, we have other means to fight for our rights.

Can you accept that the Constitution is not a magical infallible document? And that the Founding Fathers, for all their wisdom and intelligence, lacked our hindsight? And that eighteenth-century political theory isn't the final word on how we should live and operate?

Sure, the Constitition itself forsees this possibility, and provides for us a reasonable means of changing it

What I am advocating is that gun ownership ought to be considered a privilege, not a right.

Privileges have a funny way of disappearing under certain circumstances. A right cannot be taken away, except through tyranny.

The Second Amendment is a totally useless, archaic concept--especially against our increasingly technocratic society.

Explain to me again how our increasingly technocratic society has better protected us and our rights.

--that has repeatedly failed and that does nothing but enable the deranged and the evil to harm the innocent.

Are you trying to protect us against ourselves now? What's next, a ban against cars and eating too many cheeseburgers? Also, are you trying to contend that guns do no good? You need to do more research. Guns are simply an extension of the persons holding them. Bad people will do just as much damage with a knife.

RE: To hell with the Second Amendment
I think you need to think direction OP. You need to develop some visualization skills.

For instance, lets assume that the government is successful in eliminating the second amendment, what is the next logical step?

The next logical step is to then eliminate private property rights, not for the elite because their wealth and property is all global, but for you the tax serf. Because weapons were historically used to protect private property.

This makes you more of an indentured serf that you already are. Maybe you went to a liberal progressive school that taught you this is a preferable and more sustainable way of life, but where is end game for that paradigm?

OP can suck it you don't get to decide nor do those like you. You'll never get a 3/4 for it out of the states. So it's never going to happen

What led You to that assumption ?

I would suggest You are not well informed on the Nature of " Rights " as appertains to the Second Amendment .

Your coming from the assumption that the Constitution is inherently correct. My OP challenges this notion. I'm sorry, but everything you wrote sidesteps the issue. The 2A is simply wrong.

Ah . . . I see You're not serious about discussing Your view and the assumptions formed there under . You offer no proof whatsoever supporting those assumptions . Not even with specific points brought under question .

If the Constitution is flawed , as You propose , then so is Your Fathers Last Will and Testament . They are both Statements of intended Decent and Distribution . I suggest You be certain to run Dad's Will through the Probate Court so the fine Saturn Robed Arbitrators of Government get Their cut of Your Family Fortune .
