Burn coal or freeze in the dark, your choice.

Maunder minimum approaches.

I live in a coal area and they are mining like mad. Many of our power plants still use coal. The bad thing is many take the money and run leaving the land polluted and unrestored.

RE: World Coal Production Just Had Its Biggest Drop on Record
An industry insider has heaped scorn on the push to create electricity from "clean" coal-fired power, dismissing it as unviable.

Coalition MPs and coal-industry advocates are lobbying for new-generation coal-fired power stations with technology that captures the greenhouse gas emissions and stores them underground as the future basis of mass-scale electricity supply in Australia.

But David Hilditch, who spent many years trying to commercialise the technology, told the ABC it would not work.

"The subsidy required would be enormous," he said. "CCS [carbon capture and storage] has been a failure".
Mr Hilditch worked for 12 years as commercial manager with the Carbon Capture and Storage Co-operative Research Centre, a joint government-industry venture, working on about 30 projects in Australia and across the globe.

Only one project came to fruition — at Chevron's Gorgon gas project on Barrow Island in Western Australia, but this involved the application of carbon capture and storage to natural gas which is a far less expensive undertaking than CCS with coal-fired power.

"We did some economic modelling looking at a new coal-fired power plant in the future with CCS and discovered that the cost would be the equivalent of two coal-fired power plants because of the energy required to capture the C02, compress the C02 and deliver the C02 to the storage site,"
Mr Hilditch said.

Global demand for coal falls in 2016 for second year in a row
UK coal consumption has slumped back to levels not seen since the 1800s

Global demand for coal has fallen for the second consecutive year, according to a BP study, helped by the US and China burning less of the dirtiest fossil fuel.

The UK was described as the “most extreme example” of the trend away from coal, which has resulted in use of the fuel returning to levels not seen since the start of the industrial revolution.

The 1.7% fall in worldwide consumption in 2016 marks a striking reversal of fortune for coal, which was the largest source of energy demand growth until four years ago, BP said.

Quote:AL GORE: The loss of jobs in the coal industry started with the mechanization of the coal industry. Natural gas started displacing coal and the fossil fuel sector. And promising to re-create the 19th century is not a visionary strategy for a successful 21st century. (END TAPE)
CHUCK TODD: Is he right that you guys are making a false promise though to some of these fossil fuel industries?
EPA ADMINISTRATOR SCOTT PRUITT: Dead wrong. Because the numbers show exactly the opposite in fact since the fourth quarter of last year to most recently added almost 50,000 jobs in the coal sector. In the month of May alone, almost 7,000 jobs.

Fact Check: Four Smokestacks (Wrong, Deliberate and Dangerous)
There is no question that Pruitt’s claim is wrong. Was it deliberate? Absolutely. He made the same claim on Fox News Sunday. On our scale of one-to-four smokestacks, Pruitt’s claim earns a Four Smokestack rating — a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and justify actions that put our health and environment in danger

According to the most recent data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), there are a TOTAL of 51,000 jobs in the coal mining industry. Four hundred jobs were created in the industry in May, or about 0.3% of the total non-farm jobs added during the month. Here is the raw data from the BLS, with the number of jobs in the coal mining industry shown by month (in the thousands):

shove your Paris 'agreement' up your collectivist asses you lying f*cks.

as if your mob of brainless arsewipes aren't a collective of knuckle dragging backwoods bigots that put the group before individuals.. perhaps you shouldn't use words too big for your tiny far right brainwashed mind

Ad hominem attacks, especially generalist ad hominem attacks, are infantile and demonstrate a lack of reasoning ability of the offender.

Trump will get coal production way up.

Pence just confirmed that Trump created over 50,000 jobs in the Coal mining states. Unemployment is down to four percent. What was the average when Obama was president? Probably nine of ten percent. Man, he was a horrible president! Easily the worst president in history after Kennedy.

All this data is false. Trump will appoint good men who can show that under Republicans wonderful things happen to employment. Praise Trump. The Democrats always cause massive unemployment.

Obama was just a total disaster for the economy. People were losing their jobs all over the place. Everybody was on welfare.

Now, Trump is going to stop all that Welfare Crap. No handouts to lazy people. Find a way to make a living or go to the other side of the WALL.

Praise Trump!

RE: World Coal Production Just Had Its Biggest Drop on Record
Why would the US Bureau of Labor Statistics release false data about the number of coal jobs ? They would know that if they did they would get fact checked and called out on it.. I believe they would also have fairly good record having been around since 1884.

Admit it.. Pruitt is lying and misleading the public

India cancels plans for huge coal power stations as solar energy prices hit record low

India has cancelled plans to build nearly 14 gigawatts of coal-fired power stations – about the same as the total amount in the UK – with the price for solar electricity “free falling” to levels once considered impossible.

Analyst Tim Buckley said the shift away from the dirtiest fossil fuel and towards solar in India would have “profound” implications on global energy markets.

According to his article on the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis’s website, 13.7GW of planned coal power projects have been cancelled so far this month – in a stark indication of the pace of change.

Virginia now has more jobs in the solar industry than the coal industry. Numbers from the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy show a 40% drop in the number of people working in the coal industry over the last five years. Henry Childress with the Virginia Coal and Energy Alliance says coal produces more energy with fewer employees.
