During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.

Small businesses can only survive if customers are prepared to pay them over the odds for sh*t they can get more cheaply elsewhere.
Now that can work if you have an exclusive brand image and an affluent customer base but if you're going head to head with the corporates then you're gonna lose.
Small business would flourish if government treated them like big business and treat big business like they currently treat small business. Everything is rigged against small business so that big business need not worry about competition. That's what they pay politicians for.

Jhikpghf

Subsidies and bail-outs, tax breaks, and special programs are not fair to small business and Spiddy is playing corporate shill-bag.

You don't operate here.

The point, originally stated, was that they get corporate welfare and we small business owners pay their bills as a result.

If you didn't realize that you should now retract your statements.

Otherwise, you are full of crap because handouts don't equal economies of scale nor business success.

Society as we know it is unsustainable.

When the transport becomes too costly you will wish you had the local businesses.

The small town with focused shops will return, or agenda 21 will be enacted to kennel you all in mega-cities.

There are no other options currently.

The current paradigm is unsustainable.

Lol.
I don't know how it works in America but over here the big boys are now local too.
Then again this is a small and mostly urban nation.

RE: Surprise, San Diego's Minimum Wage Rise Appears To Be Killing Restaurant Jobs
The pattern is as old as human life. The new rulers use more and more force, more police, more soldiers, trying to enforce more efficient control, trying to make the planned economy work by piling regulations on regulations, decree on decree. The people are hungry and hungrier. And how does a man on this earth get butter? Doesn't the government give butter? But government does not produce food from the earth; Government is guns. It is one common distinction of all civilized peoples, that they give their guns to the Government. Men in Government monopolize the necessary use of force; they are not using their energies productively; they are not milking cows. To get butter, they must use guns; they have nothing else to use.

I'm telling you how it is and I'm not retracting anything.
Unless you have something special and unique to sell the majors can sell it cheaper.
And if you expect the average Joe to pay you over the odds just because you're local folk then you're in for a disappointment.
People do what's best for them not what's best for you.

RE: Surprise, San Diego's Minimum Wage Rise Appears To Be Killing Restaurant Jobs
This thread really lost the topic...

It's not small business vs big business... It's how damaging a minimum wage that is too high can be to an economy.

When wages are raised, the cost of goods and manufacturing increase in order to pay the higher wages. The consumer ends up spending just as much if not more of their paycheck on the same products. It just doesn't work the way most of you think it does.

And as an additional note.. if a nation begins printing money with reckless abandon, then no other nation will want their money, because it's essentially made worthless. When this happens, you are constrained to only buying or selling goods withing that nation, secluding yourself from the rest of the global market.

This is just logic. I see it lacking so much more often. If you envision an end result, consider the changes that must be made to achieve that result. If you don't know what is involved to get there... Read a book. Read a book. Read a motherf'ing book.

How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think.

Don't make me laugh.
If you're working full time on min wage and still require government assistance to pay your rent then the min wage is too low.

Spiddy is correct again as usual on this one. Just accept it. It's an ugly truth, but it's the truth nonetheless.

It's no surprise, and if you raise the niminum wage even higher, say 50 dollars an hour, all the restaurant jobs will cease to exist. Jhikpghf

That's a fact, so refrain from pretending you have a clue about what we think or feel about these issues which don't concern you.
