RE: breaking news: 7 US Navy sailors found dead on the uss Fitzgerald
"The Fitzgerald family crest is quite unique to an Irish / Norman crest, in that it features monkeys on each side of the coat of arms.

The monkeys are said to have been incorporated into the Fitzgerald crest in the time of John FitzThomas, the 1st Earl of Kildare. As an infant, he was sleeping in a bedchamber at Woodstock Castle, an outpost of Maynooth near Athy, when a fire broke out. In the confusion of the fire, the infant was thought to have perished in the fire. However, it was discovered that an ape, who was normally kept in chains as a pet, had broken free and had rescued the baby, keeping him safe in one of the towers. Out of gratitude to the animal, the Fitzgeralds incorporated monkeys into their family crest and adopted the family motto of ‘Non Immemor Beneficii’ (‘Not Forgetful of Favours’)."

I don't get it.
They didn't search the "flooded compartments" first?
They waited until the ship was towed back to Nippon?
They could have been alive in an air pocket.
This is starting to stink like a Clinton.

Rofl

i was going to blame this on Hillary as a parody.

Too bad for those men, thinking the American government cared about them.

These are the risks assumed when our country has military deployed in nearly every region on earth.

Collision happened in south china sea yes?

How can a US warship be rammed without evading in first place?
The ship itself would sound a warning automatically

I do not believe this story!

Ship was not rammed but attacked.

Whenever there is a naval accident there is an inquiry. How did it happen? Obviously there is blame here since modern radar should have prevented this. Especially such a huge ship as the container ship. You can bet someone will lose their job, be brought up on charges and other punishments. I would guess even if the skipper was not directly responsible he will be demoted. So wait a while until we know more.

Theres a billon sensors implemented in such warships.
Surveillance 24\7.
5 step failsaves
Etc etc
There is no way an approaching cargovessel could have gone unnoticed
Coverup and fake news again
Btw the ship has Video surveillance AS well
Cameras should have captured the incident

Yes, you're right. I forgot about the sterling medical care provided by the VA health system, the high pay for enlisted men, and the college scholarships. It was wrong of me to take this one issue and magnify it to make it something it's not. Just as it would have been wrong for me to bring up the denial of college benefits because the system says wrongly they've already been paid out, or unfounded dishonorable discharges so they can deny benefits to servicemen who sustained injuries in the line of duty, or to friendly fire incidents such as one involving a former NFL player who enlisted in the aftermath of 9/11, or when they put an elite SEAL unit on a chopper without protection that was shot down by a missile over Afghanistan. I sure was mistaken when I made that wayward assertion.

Maybe the cargo ship was remote controlled, and stealthed from radar and it rammed into the side of the destroyer?

The destroyer wasn't moving for some reason. The cargo ship turned around in a busy shipping lane for some reason.

I wonder if the cargo ship took the opportunity to turn around and ram the destroyer when the opportunity appeared since the destroyer couldn't move .

The human ego and the "cowboy-up" attitude overshadows and neutralizes all tools. They probably thought they could make it across the bow of the cargo ship in time (all rule 15 and rule 16 illegal). Same thing happened to the USS PORTER in the Straits of Hormuz several years ago.

The Fitz was the give-way vessel in a crossing situation and they are REQUIRED to come right (don't stop if it will result in extremis) or if early enough, stop or reduce speed to allow the stand-on vessel to cross ahead if the action is early enough, or maybe both if rule 2 prudent seamanship is apparent.
