I lived in Charlotte, NC when Hugo blew through. Now that was one helluva storm.

doomed

Remember how hot it was then? That entire timeframe of 2007-2012, it was hot and the weather was nuts.

Tropical Storm Cindy forms in the Gulf of Mexico
Source: Miami Herald

"Tropical Storm Cindy formed Tuesday afternoon from a sprawling messy system rolling across the Gulf of Mexico, raising the risk of dangerous flooding along parts of the U.S. coast, forecasters said.

The system, located about 265 miles from the southeast coast of Louisiana, is expected to dump six to nine inches of rain along the central Gulf coast, National Hurricane Center forecasters said in their 2 p.m. advisory. Some areas, including the Florida Panhandle, could get up to 12 inches of rain, raising the risk of dangerous flooding. A foot to three-foot storm surge is also possible for parts of the coast.

The storm, with sustained winds of 45 mph extending 205 miles, had stalled Tuesday afternoon but was expected to begin moving to the northwest at about 10 mph and near the Louisiana coast late Wednesday.

In flood-prone parts of the Gulf coast, so much rain could have dangerous consequences. A no name storm last year dumped 20 inches of rain across southeastern Louisiana in just 15 hours. At least 13 people died and more than 140,000 homes were damaged.

RE: Let's play: "Guess the Landfall"
I will venture a guess and say it will make landfall from the Gulf of Mexico between Goat Island Texas and Caplen Texas. I hope it is ok and I gave myself a six mile wide window for landfall.....

If I have to be more precise, I will say the direct hit will be 2.5 miles southwest of Caplen Texas near Crystal Beach, Texas crossing HWY 87 between North Tuna Drive and Guppy road. Coordinates 29.479700, -94.569179

Katrina didn't even make landfall in New Orleans.
Quote:Katrina, which a day before had grown to a 175-mph (282-kph), Category 5 behemoth, made landfall about 6:10 a.m. CDT (1110 GMT) east of Grand Isle in the bayou town of Buras.
