I guess nature is the original work of art yes.

Yes...Nature's true music is a very interesting rhythm of old and new...the old is the beat and the new is the 'perceivers' personal state of mind. Like when you grow-up next to a massive orchard in a completely rural environment, as in my case. Winters are a claustrophobic assault of orange blossom, that delights the senses of the visitor, while you drown. The only way out is to sense anything new within that given trap...then you start to equate the smell of orange blossom with sound: birds/insects attracted to it...anything to surface, and breath mentally. Bird song, ants rustling and the wind are my Music, my salvation from the orange tsunami. I dream of the thunder of the ocean, the smell of wild musical salt..every-changing

The ancient instruments had a purity that is rare to find in this age.

Ignoring our oneness with nature will be our undoing.

RE: Where does the inspiration to make music come from?
one moment the sounds are not there adn the next they are.
people can say they are inspired by beauty of nature or whatever else they want
to say is a muse
but everytihng just happens by itself.
same inspiration to pick my nose as to write Le Nozze Di Figaro.
many people have done the same things as artists and no song came.
no song worth singing anyways.

Mozart clicked and fondled billiard balls and got into some meditative state from it.
I could do likewise and never have any music arise.
And if you allow that that was Mozart's inspiration, what inspired him to
click billiard balls? the music?

RE: Where does the inspiration to make music come from?
The most amazing thing about music is 2 people can play the same song and it will sound different.
The timbres are never exactly the same, the attack, decay and other qualities are always distinct even if the techniques, tuning and tempo exactly match.
Even if two people try to play and sing exactly the same it will sound different.
No two songs being exactly the same is easy and nature like snowflakes, but the fact it is physically impossible to exactly copy a piece of music is really amazing.

Will we ever run out of melodies and lyrics?
Seems to me to be an infinite supply hidden somewhere unknown...
Not just music either but all forms of art.

And if there is an infinite supply...Where is this infinity held?

RE: Where does the inspiration to make music come from?
I agree with Keith Richards who says he is an antenna that 'picks up' riff whatnot out of thin air.

I can agree 100%. I found a bunch of lyrics I wrote like 30 years ago and I couldn't believe how (some of them lol) were very much far too good for a 17 yr old to have written.

In my stilted opinion. Jptdknpa
