Night of the Comet
Saturn Three

Great movies.

Cheer

I've read that "Night of the Comet" is a pretty good 80's sci-fi/horror-flick. I've always wanted to see it.

Apparently it's sitting right there on Youtube for your viewing pleasure. So is "Videodrome" I noticed. Though I can't attest to the video-quality of either (for instance, "Scanners" I just saw is also on Youtube, but the frame is woefully cropped to the degree it's unwatchable).

Any suggestions!

Horror, sci fi and fatasy movies are my favourit ones.

That's f**ked up to sh*t on it. Regardless of OP's (granted, in need of attention) issues with spelling.

Here's some more recommendations, but they aren't current releases(I found them at the library)

Klown

(Danish)

The original Get Carter with Michael Caine

Well done- "Straight Time" is great!

Ironically I also discovered that film at the library. I was like, "Huh. A crime film. From the 70's. Starring Dustin Hoffman. That I haven't heard of. What the f*#k?"

It's so good. It's based on a novel by Eddie Bunker (whose also got a small cameo role in the film as some scumbag Dustin Hoffman commiserates with in a bar, if I remember correctly...), who himself was an ex con in real life, then became a crime-novelist. He was a big influence on Quentin Tarantino who would eventually cast him as "Mr. Blue" in "Reservoir Dogs".

If you ever get around to seeing this keep an eye out also for a young, reasonably cute Kathy Bates in a small role as Gary Busey's wife.

Criminally neglected film.

I'm going to see, "It" today w/a friend in Cupertino! Yeah!

"It" is supposed to be amazing.

Every year there's a handful of films that are basically critic-proof, which also penetrate the mass mainstream audience as well. "It" looks to be shaping up as one this year.

"Saving Private Ryan" comes to mind. It was ridiculously well-reviewed (deservedly) AND was the highest grossing film of 1998.

A year or 2 ago "Mad Max: Fury Road" was similarly a critical darling, ending up (shockingly) a leading contender for the Best Picture Oscar, while also making a ton of money.

Sometimes certain filmmakers hit that f*ckin' sweet spot, man. Everybody aims for it. Very few ever come close.

Ah, Mr Blue..thought he seemed familiar.

Of more recent vintage 2 Jessica Chastain Films are great:

The zookeeper's Wife:

I liked Miss Sloane best but her performances in both were outstanding.

I want to see a good alien invasion film where humans are tortured (makes the meat taste better) and then they are eaten. The aliens then leave behind a few thousand uneaten humans so they can return again one day for another traditional holiday feast. Cheer

Try " The Brotherhood of the Wolves", modeled after a true monster story in old France,
The Beast Of Guevedan. (spelling?)

Watch Plan Nine From Outer Space with the volume turned down and play the music of Black Sabbath. The first couple three albums all work wonderfully at various points. The Anti Wizard of Oz/Dark Side of the Moon. I think the key is to time it and pick tracks from all three records. But that destorys the fun.

Well you didn't give a timeline so....I am assuming old cheesy effects movies are on the table....

My fav's

#1....Big Trouble in little China...hands down, my favorite movie of all time. it is cheesy and terrible and wonderful

#2...another John Carpenter masterpiece and just as cheesy....Prince of darkness. I love this movie. it is terrible and wonderful at the same time.

#3 Conan the Barbarian...no not the new fail fest but the original with Arnold. Arnold was made to be Conan.

#4 I hate to put this at #4 cause it really is one of my favorite movies but...."Excalibur" with Nigel Terry (circa 1981 I think)....one of the most bloody and beautiful movies ever made. The soundtrack alone makes it a winner.

#5 ....Jaws. Nuff said.

#6 Gladiator....such an excellent movie and an equally awesome soundtrack.

#7 Frankenstein Unbound with Jonathon Hurt and Raul Julia....a sleeper...and one of the best mind f*#k films you will ever see...the more you watch it...the deeper it gets.

#8 The Sword and the Sorcerer...A terribly cheesy flick but I still love it.

#9 Predator...the original....could possibly be one of the coolest movies ever made....

and...

#10 "Aliens"....there is just no words and it is hard to prioritize these cause I love them all....But Aliens has to be in the top 10 movies ever....it's just awesome.

Here's another gem from the 70's:

Macon County Line:

Produced and starring Max Baer Jr. (Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies).

It's really quite good.

Did you know Jethro's dad was world heavyweight boxing champ?
