gmorning WTH the new you tube layout prevents video download add ons to work!
I was just watching a video on you tube with firefox browser and I downloaded an add on so that I can download that video into my hard drive. However I got a message that says that under the new lay out of you tube this is impossible for the time being.

I'm going to search for alternatives but I'm starting to think that all the other add ons might experinece the same problem...

Is there anyone who knows an add on that actually works under the new you tube lay out.

Does it make sense that if one thing is updated, an addon would have to be as well?

I use "DS Get" on my phone (I have Synology NAS on my LAN) and I have had no problems downloading YouTube and other videos, but I've not within the last couple weeks. I'll try something in a few minutes (I have to bring up a VPN connection on my phone to my LAN over the WAN first).

Okay, my IP addresses has changed because I had to connect to my LAN at home, but once I did I started "DS Get" and pasted a YouTube link and added the task and it downloaded quickly and correctly.

Okay, my IP addresses has changed because I had to connect to my LAN at home, but once I did I started "DS Get" and pasted a YouTube link and added the task and it downloaded quickly and correctly.

What's nice about this set up is it works from anywhere on my phone. It works whether I'm home connected wifi to my LAN (where my NAS reside), or if I'm a thousand miles away at a friend's home. I don't leave ports open on my firewall to allow direct WAN access to my NAS, but I can access them though a VPN connection between my phone and my LAN over the WAN.

So, no matter where I am, I can simply open one of 3 ways I have to VPN connect to my LAN (VPN is supported on my Cisco router, and in all my Synology NAS, and in numerous other devices if necessary). Then I just start DS Get and paste in URLs of anything I want to save. It's worked on everything I've wanted to download.

I don't download copyright protected stuff as a general rule. First off, I don't need to. I can buy whatever I want, and I do because I insist on the best video quality I can get. I watch most everything on a projected screens, and up to 10 feet on the inside screen, up to 30 feet wide on my large tall garage screen. But there is a lot of other stuff I like to grab, like video posted by friends, family. And then there's just a lot of funny short things I like to keep in my large farm of NAS drives filled with thousands of movies I've bought and ripped over the years so I can have instant access to everything.

I imagine some of those funny ha ha short videos I've downloaded could be copy protected, but there's little if any commercial value in such stuff, so ... muh. And it's not as if I'm redistributing someone's YouTube posted stuff. As a recent test, I downloaded Seth MacFarlanes Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy to stash in my directory where I'll record and save those Orville shows now. I got a good broadcast recording from my IPTV receiver yesterday, with no dropped frames, meaning it's as good as the original broadcast quality because it is exactly that. Those I imagine are copyright protected, but I still intend to record them all for my personal use. The quality will be 3 times better than what they will eventually sell on DVD or via download. I.E. when I record an hour broadcast that's 720p, 60 fps, it will be around 3.4 GB. When you buy the discs with the shows on it, a 1 hour show is typically 1 GB. I hate compression artifacts, it totally distracts from the experience. Going 4k is just too spendy for a projector at this time, as I require 2.

YouTubeDownloaderHD

http://ccm.net/download/download-14629-y...nloader-hd

Excellent - easy to load into your PC

I use Chrome which does not allow scripts to be installed directly from the website, so here are a couple of workarounds:

Manual Install
Click the install button to download the script to your computer.
Click on the "Customize Google Chrome Button" to the right of the address bar and go to Tools > Extensions
Drag the downloaded script onto the Extensions page
Customize and install the script

YouTube Downloader HD is one of the several applications that have emerged to help users download videos from YouTube. Without the need of scripts or browser plug-ins, users just have to copy and paste the video URL from the web browser to this application and wait for the program to create a download link. Once the video is downloaded, users can save the file on their hard drive and convert it to the format of their choice. YouTube Downloader HD also includes Unicode support, a feature that allows you to save videos with special characters such as Japanese, Chinese, or Cyrillic.
