You don't dream during deep sleep. Dream time is a lighter sleep when consciousness is stirring. The lighter the sleep the easier it is to lucid dream and remember. Naps during the day are generally a lighter sleep unless one is over tired. Illness and restlessness make you dream more.

Restless leg syndrome (RLS) is a disorder of the nervous system that causes the overwhelming urge to move your legs. It’s often accompanied by pain, throbbing, or other unpleasant sensations. Symptoms often increase when you’re inactive, like when you’re sitting or lying down. Restless leg syndrome can be extremely disruptive to sleep.

Magnesium is a natural mineral that our bodies need to function properly. It plays a role in regulating different biochemical reactions in the body. This includes nerve and muscle function and a healthy immune system. Magnesium deficiency can cause problems with nerve impulse conduction, muscle contractions, and muscle cramps.

RLS is usually the cause for PLMs during sleep

And every case is distinctive, some can have huge movements and have no arousals in brain activity at all.

And others can have very very slight unnoticable movements that cause an arousal each time.

Thats why doing sleep studies is so fascinating. Every study is a new puzzle to put together

I wouldnt call REM sleep a light sleep necessarily.

But you are correct that REM doesnt occur during Deep slow wave sleep.

Which is why alcohol and so many drugs act as REM suppresants... because they keep you in un natural extended Deep SWS. Slow wave sleep is important, but not nearly as restorative physically and emotionally as REM sleep
