Where Do Used Bookstores Get Their Books?

I ordered two books on E Bay

Anyways I get the first book and on the inside cover there is a love note a girl wrote her boyfriend.

The book was a gift.

So I get the second book and it has a students class notes on the pages.

In college I loved when this happened because I already has a outline for a paper.

The books were three dollars and shipping was another three so it cost twelve dollars.

E Bay has a box to check 'show me the lowest price first'.

RE: Where Do Used Bookstores Get Their Books?
From many sources, house clearances, donations... in the UK there are book banks where you throw your old books away and they are brought in lots by used book sellers, sorting good from bad and selling what they can. My next door neighbour has his garage filled with used books he sells..

I used to do a little voluntary work in a Charity shop sorting donations for Scope, some really good books came through the door...managed to find some interesting first editions that where put up for auction, they brought in a lot of money for the charity.

My railway station has a book exchange they've been running for around 60 years.. people are always getting rid of their old books, some weeks they have hundreds other weeks the shelves look bare.. someone always wants a good read, but then someone always wants to pass that on...

I've sold truckloads of books to used bookstores.

I get about 10 cents or LESS for every $ spent on new book price I spent.

Basically it's just repayment of my gas for the book recycling trip as gas was $40 a trip.

I got to local auctions and you can get books for free at most of them or buy big lots of them for a couple bucks. I have picked up brand new books and good condition used older books for nothing...

Jehovah's Witnesses sell them to book stores.
They steal them from you when you let them in your house.

When people pass, perhaps they collected a treasure of books, things that enlightened them so much they kept shelves of these forgotten words of wisdom.

Then the kids come in. Say: "Freak that! I've can read an ebook." And toss them into the donation truck.

And then the powers that be (who run all things virtual) delete all those great books, or if they leave any of those forgotten books to be read...they edit out all the good stuff.

RE: Where Do Used Bookstores Get Their Books?
the local library has books sales occasionally, once they had an entire room just FILLED with boxes and tables and piles of books for sale.
we stocked up the last day where a bag was a dollar.
the kids went wild and we had a blast!
it was like heaven!
books of all kinds..

i picked out one called SORCERORS CROSSING, a used paperback.it was signed by the author Taisha Abelar.
when i put my hand over her handwriting i felt incredible heat, it was hot, but only from her script, nothing else.
i also noticed in her handwriting she had many, many breaks between her letters, which in graphology (handwriting analysis) means psychic ability.
i felt she was still alive and she is quite powerful.
