this is a photographic record of the sounds from the American front on the Moselle end of ww1^

you can hear it here:
https://codatocoda.bandcamp.com/album/iw...rpretation

some background information here:
How the battlefield sounded as World War I guns fell silent
A century after World War I ended, it's possible to hear just how suddenly the guns fell silent. The thought-provoking soundscape was produced from "sound ranging" film that was made to locate enemy artillery positions.

I love how there's a silent pause when the shooting stops - and then a bird boldly starts singing
after our new year's fireworks it takes a whole day until you hear birds again

RE: the sound of war ending
Great find. Thank you for posting.

I had my two grandfathers fighting WWI.

One in the trenches the other was a taxi de la Marne.

The first one I never knew. The second one only some years.

In France, men from the rich and noble classes could buy replacements in the poor people's classes, so they would not have to go to war. They would pay somebody else to go for them. It was legal.

We (the people) didn't want war.
Unbelievable fortunes were amassed by people who had prior/insider
knowledge of the government plans to start war and got privileged
government contracts. (war profiteers)

They call Bernard Baruch the arch-war profiteer of WW1 claiming that his
fortune expanded from 1 million dollars to 200 million from the war.
(they've cleaned up his wicki-page making him out to be a real peach)

In the prelude to the Great War Europe devolved in the same direction we are heading now. Quite bizzare all those streams of liberalism going at it while also thinking that globalisation had put an end to war between the major powers...

Being a boring party pooper.... it is worth pondering the effects those shells had on human minds.... the peace for those there at the time must have been utterly astounding knowing it had come to an end...

No wonder until the mid 1920s balls and joyous celebrations where held on armistice day....

RE: the sound of war ending
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly.
Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
