Not really. It is sometimes fun to see their eyes glaze over. Gotta take your fun where you find it. chuckle

WTF is happening in your avatar pic?

Tin foil hat, lost her marbles.

Oh Skippy, those are ORBS! And yes, I am wearing my tinfoil hat and I am holding a genuine Don Croft Succor Punch to ward away dark energy!

It's called self-deprecating humor (poking fun at yourself, to the less learned) chuckle

RE: Genuine question: do you ever hold back your intelligence?
When I was younger 25-30 years ago I was stupid, I trusted everyone and made the mistake of being as honest about myself and who I am as possible. Unfortunately I am high functioning autistic so I don't understand the ins and outs of human interaction. I got burnt badly by a few people before I learned to trust no one until they demonstrate they can be trusted.

I also discovered that if I pretend to be less intelligent than I am to everyone, I can get to see how they act and react. If they think you are stupid they will lie more often and be less careful.

I don't talk down to people, I try to treat everyone equally.

Equally until I learn what they are.

When I was a kid I tried to recharge a 9 volt battery in a light socket. Circuit breakers were blown and I too was almost burnt badly.

I no longer do that anymore.

What if you don't just hold back but intentionally mislead?

Meaning have you ever found yourself "dumbing down" in any situation?

Only when I don't want to "get involved."

I can think of plenty of times.

It's a sympathetic-type response that seems to automatically take over, even though, while it's going on, I know that it's happening but it just feels right at the time. I hate to think I would ever make someone I'm talking to, feel inferior.

I find it that those of true intelligence never talk about intelligence and those who are not intelligent are always asking questions about it. Heartflowers

I post for my entertainment purposes only, not yours.
I didn't read the comments, probably didn't read the OP either.

I've been fired for competence after pointing out on a project that out of 240 days the project leader was drunk or 'sick' for 234 of them yet still billed 1900 a day. Got the engineering pieces done with all the docs, helped out another group with their system management piece they had shelved. But without the PM to do the signing on a couple of key pieces of equipment, the delivery timelines were shoddy crap. Because the paperwork wasn't getting done it backed up into 14 other groups projects that were codependent on the primary transformation project. My post-mortum put the cost of his drunken bullshit at around 4 million in lost cost involving our project and other project stake holders since the project was to fix entrenched services.

How did I get fired for competence? The drunken sot of a PM was related to the VP of the place I was contracting engineering services to. Oh well, doesn't matter in the end. Last I heard the VP died in a horrible head on collision and the PM drowned. Bit of bad luck, but their deaths saved millions in operating costs and extended the safety of the service provider's business.
