Sometimes around basketball fellas, but then when it gets technical I can't help myself, or when I'm lazy and around the stat nerds, let them do the work.

Also if playing poker with people I don't know, which is rare these days, or if I'm investigating.

Somehow I can get lost in spaces right in front of people, like invisible.

Yes, in every social setting, when I have to pretend to care about what all the other sheep are discussing.

Remember, I am playing a character who is based on me.

Absolutely! Whenever I have to deal with cashiers or salespeople in stores like Kroger or Home Depot! Being an idiot with an IQ of 2 must be a prerequisite to work in these stores! I think if you have an IQ of 5 at Kroger they promote you to management.

Sometimes I’ll catch myself doing it if I’m talking to an idiot or a stoner. It is fun to watch them try and keep up.

RE: Genuine question: do you ever hold back your intelligence?
Yes, a habit I picked up from my father, who -- though not a genius -- was highly intelligent and often adopted folksy mannerisms and speech patterns in order to become a great salesman and businessman and died a multi-millionaire.

Few around him probably knew he was an accomplished designer and engineer with a 135 IQ because of his down-to-earth persona.

Unfortunately, it is not me at all. As a result, it is hard for me to hide my contempt for the intellectually challenged (the majority). And I am not very good, I am afraid, at pretending to be another bozo on the bus.

It is a skill and a talent dad possessed in abundance. Maybe he really was a shape-shifter as my mother once said.
