Never would I have thought someone would slay the giant Steam! Epic Games' is planning on launching a distribution platform that severely undercuts Steam's fees it charges developers for every sale of their game.

RE: Steam lowers developer fees in response to Epic Game's coming distribution
Hello Friends, old scholastics here. OP, games are made now into weapons and it's impossible to explain to anyone, how each group that discusses "video games" in this time, is both wrong and right.

"Steam" as such, is a toxic piece of crap, I always put the word "radioactive" in front of them when speaking of them. They are utter poison and I would have drowned that corporate body on the first day of its inception.

Games are ruined, and also, reborn at this time. Reborn, through modders, PC gods such as myself. All you console groms have no ideas. Sadly your whole generation was welded to the console controller and not the keyboard. Even now, words are like marbles in your mouths, and your hearts despair, so you run to the chans or to this or that shadowed corner. ALL of that was made through the down-grading of society.

I love games, and I selectively choose (mostly war) games that prepare me for the future. In this way, video games are not unlike mushrooms. The wrong ones can put you on a path where you (you player one, the real person) will be dead or not accomplishing the quest goals, to use a video game term.

Ah yes. OP, what is the "quest goal" of Earth? We can see that person x is spawned in zone x, and with credits numbering y and with attributes such as GURPS strength, charisma, etc. But, gaming, pencil and paper, is what made, gaming, console and PC. In the final analysis, there is only one character you are running in this game, and it is you.

If they make a game, where someone in the game, puts down their controller, and picks up a history book, would that game sell?

GOG is the best game platform. What happens if Steam goes down? You lose everything. The storefront itself is DRM.

GOG lets you download your game installers. You're free to burn them to disc, install them on any PC you want. Why wouldn't you? You paid for them. How you use them is up to you.

I have a Steam account but I rarely ever buy anything on Steam these days. I much prefer GOG.

I can't wait for Cyberpunk 2077.

RE: Steam lowers developer fees in response to Epic Game's coming distribution
Quote:Now Epic is trying to do Steam one better. A 70/30 split might not be appealing to developers and publishers anymore, but how about 88/12? On top of that, Epic is touting scale-tipping features Steam developers have been requesting for years like a built-in bug-reporting system, opt-in/out user reviews, and a lack of forums and other social media to mitigate Steam’s rampant toxicity issues. Developers, it sounds like, will be able to handle things more on their own terms. In addition, if developers decide to use Epic’s Unreal Engine 4 to make their games, they don’t have to pay additional royalties to Epic—a proposition likely appealing to smaller developers already burned by Steam’s new make-the-rich-richer approach.

That's a step backwards in my opinion. There are a lot of garbage games on Steam and there are a lot of unworthy developers out there who would love to turn off reviews and the forum so they can sell their flaming garbage like it's squeaky clean AAA game material.

The reviews and forums are necessary so new buyers know what they're getting in to before they buy. I very rarely pre-order these days, because I've been burned in the past by doing so. 99% of the time I very carefully read forums, reviews, and gameplay videos before I buy.

Removing the reviews and the forums is a disservice to the gamers and just enables bad developers to sell bad games.

Aside from your little adblurb at the end, it was a good post on a shitthread on a warzone intellectual forum, called "Lunatic Outpost".

Your comments above are what I think most people feel. Steam sucks, me and my pirate friends all knew that, long ago. I have only paid rarely, for a video game. And, to take money from "developers" and "executives" like these, is pure pleasure.

GOG tho is where they give up their rights, and allow the gamers, to win. But it causes property-owners, to lose. For example some games pop in and out of the GOG library due to the waves of reights sloshing about the legal bucket we don't see. Grab those GOG games while they can be gotten, GOG is a gamer's delight in this sea of shitheads.

When you study Eddie S. papers and the depths with which the spyshits have gone, into using games to frame up the kids for the future, it should make you vomit. When they made you pay so much to be Darth Vader, ha ha ha, the jig was up. Now the downfall of the video game industry begins and it will be glorious, because it needs to be completely smashed to bits along with apple and all these tecch shits.

You are totally right man, thanks for you comments. Steam sucks due to their policy>results which is all control based. LOSS OF CONTROL for the controller crowd, is what's looming. Basically this shitgame "Frotnight" is one of the final coins to drop. Now that they have their inner city foneslaves killing one another on their slabfones, a great bloodletting is not very far away.

Great, so now I will have to have an origin account to play EA games, a steam account for wreckfest and many others, a microsoft account for gears of war 4 and ultimate edition and an account for whatever epic comes up with for their future releases.

I wish I could still just buy discs and install them.
