Russian opposition leader Alexey @navalny has been arrested again, this time as he stepped out of a jail where he had just finished serving another sentence for organising anti-Kremlin protests. Now he's facing another 20 days jail, also for protests.

…and leader of the far-right Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) from 1991. Known for his fiery Russian nationalism and broad anti-Semitic asides.

Kremlin loses regional votes

Russia's ruling party suffered two rare defeats in regional elections this weekend as its candidates lost to populists amid widespread discontent over a pension reform.

Vladimir Sipyagin, of the nationalist Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), won 57 percent of the vote in Vladimir, a region 190 kilometres (120 miles) east of Moscow. He defeated the incumbent United Russia governor Svetlana Orlova, who won 37.5 percent of the vote, results showed on Monday.

United Russia also lost to nationalists in the far eastern Khabarovsk region, where LDPR candidate Sergei Furgal won 70 percent of the vote against current governor Vyacheslav Shport.

Lukashenko wants to deploy additional border guard troops on border with Ukraine

Putin and Lukashenko discussed the “painful” issues

Negotiations alone lasted more than six hours and was hard, but productive, said Lukashenko.

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that he discussed with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, political engagement and Ukrainian themes.

He said that the presidential meeting in Sochi on September 21 in one-on-one to discuss political matters, relations between Russia and Belarus in the framework of the EEU, CIS, CSTO and further construction of the Union state.

“The main part of negotiations was one-on-one with the President. The talks lasted six hours, even more. And frankly, it wasn’t even difficult, and difficult negotiations. But effective,” – said the head of state.

Yerevan's City Council election, held today, is by all accounts the first free and fair election held in Armenia in more than a decade. Unofficial results are coming now, and Pashinyan’s ‘Civil Contract’ @civilcontractam seems to be winning by a landslide.

Congratulations for Poland.
Hope the same for Ukraine & Russia one day.

Poland becomes first country from former Soviet bloc to be ranked a 'developed market'

Poland has become the first country from Central and Eastern Europe to be ranked a "developed market" on the FTSE Russell index.

The country now joins the likes of the UK, US and Japan in the index’s list of the 25 most advanced global economies.

It marks the first time in a decade that a country has made the leap from emerging market to developed market in the index's rankings.

RE: Ukraine / Russia / Eastern Europe Updates
I don't know how the Russian people put up with local leaders like Chechneyan President Razman Kadyrov or National tyrants like Putin.

They should be voted out of power but that is difficult because the media is state owned the secret police have incredible powers and work with mafia connected to chosen oligarchs that know no laws will ever touch them. Russia is a hugely rigged system for the corrupt, political, wealthy, elites, and that is they type of autocratic and repressive system Trump wants the US to become with Putins help and orders. Scream1

Chechnya forms concentration camps for gays

Chechnya has begun the torture of LGBTQ people, creating the first concentration camps in Europe since World War II.

According to a report in The Week, 100 gay men were detained — and three killed — in concentration camps in the last week. Those detained in the camps are forced to agree to leave Chechnya.

Chechneyan President Razman Kadyrov, who has long been staunchly anti-gay, is said to have ordered the creation of these camps. He has previously been accused of being behind extrajudicial killings and torture of gay men in the country.

Kadyrov claims that such incidents are false, saying, “So-called human rights activists make up all sorts of nonsense for money.” in a BBC report from January.

He claimed that the killings were more likely done by the families of the deceased instead. In some cases, gay prisoners have been let out of prison only to face an “honor killing” from their family, but this is above and beyond actions taken under Kadyrov.

He has also claimed that there are no gay men in Chechnya, which would seem contradictory.

Reports of concentration camps come from Novoya Gazeta, a Russian paper with a critical eye on Russian political and social affairs. According to the publication, many gay men have been beaten and electrocuted by official in the camps.

Those held are also being forced to reveal other LGBTQ people in the country.

Take decades for Ukraine to catch up to Poland.
---------------------

In 5 years, GDP per capita in Ukraine will grow by 1.5 times

In 5 years, GDP per capita in Ukraine will grow by 1.5 times, analysts of the International Monetary Fund calculated. The growth of GDP, according to analysts, is possible due to the reform of legislation, the judiciary and the land market, as well as by bringing the production to European standards.According to the IMF, in 2023 the GDP will be $ 4,220 per capita. It is noted that in developed countries this figure averages $ 48,970, and in developing countries - $ 5,490.

Ukraine/Gross domestic product (1990)
81.46 billion USD

Poland Gross domestic product (1990)
64.55 billion USD

In 1990 Ukraine was ahead of Poland. Poland just became a developed country. Ukraine is now a below average developing country.

A horrific shame.

Volker names countries ready to send peacekeepers to Donbas

The UN peacekeeping mission could include soldiers from Sweden, Finland, Austria, Belarus, Serbia and Turkey.

In his opinion, this is a good range of countries that includes several states being considered in Russia more as part of the West, while some states as part of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). A sense of balance would be logical, he told Ekho Moskvy Radio on September 24.
