devil UAVs now flying in Wilmington, may be part of the area's economic future
May 9th 2012

The Wilmington Air Park is about to get busier. Researchers from Wright Patterson Air Force Base are starting to test unmanned aerial vehicles at the former DHL hub.

The UAV maiden voyage at the Wilmington Air Park reportedly went well. It followed months of testing inside.

The UAVs, at least five different kinds, are taking off from the south runway. They look more like something you would buy at a hobby shop, with wingspans of six feet and weighing ten to twenty-five pounds.

The FAA recently gave Wright-Patt permission to test the UAVs in a five miles radius of the air park. Three years ago DHL pulled out and 9-thousand people lost their jobs.

What do Wilmington residents think of the UAV flights? Jim Flint was standing outside Loews.

"If it brings in some jobs, fine, no problem."

only about 200 billion towns and cities called Wilmington so it should be easy to narrow this down.

Wilmington vies to transform Air Park into UAV test site

March 23rd 2012

The FAA launched a formal search for the sites earlier this month when it published a request for public comment on March 7. The test sites are part of its program to integrate unmanned aerial vehicles, or UAVs, into the nation’s air traffic system by 2015 so they can safely share the same airspace.
